$1,000. Good condition, hatchback, 6-cylinder, 258 CID, 2 bbl, power steering, 106K miles, A/C, stereo-cassette deck. Note the roof rack shown in the pictures is NOT included in my sticker price. Add another $175 if you desire the rack. It holds 2 bicycles. ~ ~ ~ I bought this as a used car in 1980. It has had regular oil changes and upkeep, driven regularly by myself, a non-smoker. And by the way, my friends all say I drive like a little old lady - there has been no hot-rodding since I've owned it! The car has very little rust probably due to where I live - Tallahassee, FL has neither salt nor sand to deal with. It doesn't snow here and it isn't close to the beach. The car was repainted (the same factory yellow) and re-striped in 1992 by Maaco. ~ ~ ~ |

Blemishes: You didn't expect an 18-year old car not to have blemishes, did you? I'll point them out for you, because I believe in an honest deal. Just below the hatch window are a couple small spots of rust (see rear-view picture). This is the largest amount of rust I've found. There is a small dent in the right front body, but no missing paint (see front-view picture). Too many big butts have sat in the front seats, the vinyl is ripping away from the stitching (see interior picture). The carpeting under the rear hatch window is ripped and disintegrating. ~ ~ ~ |

Pros & Cons: This car has been reliable transportation for me throughout its life. Why I am selling it? My boyfriend bought a '97 Toyota RAV4 for me because he is into new technology and doesn't feel safe in an old car. Do you? It is a unique-looking car, so much so that your friends will recognize you in an instant wherever you go! The emergency brake doesn't work (but I always point my wheels into the curb). The A/C needs recharging (but I'm too cheap to get it done and am scared the freon police will drain what is left and tell me I have a leak!). The rear hatch window has a small leak when it rains. The carburetor doesn't like cold weather - on bone chilling days it runs too cold for the first 10 minutes. By running too cold, I mean it runs rough or stalls unless the idling speed is set somewhat fast. |

~ ~ ~ DeDe put up this web page when she was selling the car 5 years ago. I re-posted it to my web site because I thought it was an honest example of an AMC Spirit that was driven daily. DeDe has sold the car to a man in the Quincy, Florida area, and no longer owns the car. ~ ~ ~
